Install and configure Whisperstream

Install Whisperstream on Windows, complete first-run setup, and make your first dictation.

Install Whisperstream

Whisperstream supports Windows 10 and Windows 11 on x64 computers.

  1. Download and open the Whisperstream installer.
  2. Review the license agreement and select I Agree to continue.
  3. Choose whether to install for your Windows account or make the app available across Windows accounts.
  4. Approve elevation if you selected an all-users installation.
  5. Launch Whisperstream when setup finishes.

Choose Install just for me for your Windows account. Choose Install for anyone using this computer to make the app available to other Windows accounts when you can approve the administrator prompt. Each user still accepts the EULA and needs an applicable trial or license.

Complete first-run setup

On first launch, Whisperstream asks you to accept the EULA before the main setup opens. The guided setup then helps you:

  1. Choose a dictation language.
  2. Confirm or change the Push to Talk shortcut while the matching speech model downloads in the background.
  3. Try dictation in the setup text box after the model is ready.

Follow the progress shown in setup. Dictation becomes available when the download finishes.

Make your first dictation

The default Push to Talk shortcut is Right Shift.

  1. Use the test step in setup, or finish setup and click a text field in another app.
  2. Hold your Push to Talk shortcut (Right Shift if you did not change it).
  3. Speak one short sentence in the language you selected.
  4. Release the shortcut to stop recording.
  5. Wait for Whisperstream to transcribe the sentence. The text appears in the setup box or the selected app.

If the setup test works, installation is complete.
