App basics, licensing, updates, and uninstall
Learn how the tray app, startup option, trial and license, updates, support links, and uninstall work.
Keep Whisperstream available
Whisperstream stays available from the Windows notification area while you work. Closing the main window hides it instead of ending the app, so your dictation shortcuts continue to work.

After selecting Quit, open Whisperstream again from the Start menu or desktop shortcut before using a dictation shortcut.
Turn on Home > Run on Startup to start Whisperstream in the notification area when you sign in to Windows. On the same page, choose Light or Dark to change Whisperstream's appearance.
Use the trial and activate Pro
The free trial lasts seven calendar days. It starts when your first dictation successfully produces text, not when you install or first open Whisperstream. The Pro page shows the remaining time.
When the trial ends, your settings and local data remain, but recording is unavailable until you activate a license. Open Pro and select Get Whisperstream Pro to purchase a one-time license. If you already have one, select Enter license key, paste the key, and select Activate.
Select Deactivate License on the Pro page before moving the license from a computer you still control. Reinstalling Whisperstream does not restart the trial.
Install updates
Whisperstream checks for updates automatically and asks before installing. When a newer version is available, review its version and any release notes, then select Update now. Whisperstream closes while the update installs and opens again afterward.
To check manually:
- Open About.
- Select Check for updates.
- If an update is available, review any release notes and select Update now.
Get help
Open About to use these support actions:
- Get help opens the support form.
- Request a feature opens the Whisperstream board on Featurebase.
- Send feedback opens the feedback form.
If support asks for diagnostic logs, follow Export logs.
Uninstall Whisperstream
On Windows 11, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps. On Windows 10, open Settings > Apps > Apps & features. Find Whisperstream and select Uninstall.
The uninstaller asks whether to remove Whisperstream's local data with the app. Review what survives uninstall before choosing.
