What Lockdown Mode changes#

Lockdown Mode limits AI cleanup to Local, makes cloud providers and Ollama unavailable, turns off diagnostic logging, and can protect saved transcript history with a password. During setup, choose whether to keep history.

Lockdown Mode controls Whisperstream's transcription, cleanup, and history. It does not control the app receiving inserted text or disable Agent Speak.

Lockdown Mode is off by default. Open Home, find Lockdown Mode, and turn it on to begin.

Turn on Lockdown Mode#

1. If the acknowledgment screen appears, review the setup summary, select the acknowledgment, and choose Continue.
2. Choose Keep encrypted history or Don't save transcripts.
3. Complete the steps shown for your choice.

Keep encrypted history#

Choose this option to keep using transcript history behind a password.

1. Choose whether Save audio is on.
2. Under Keep for, select 1 day, 7 days, 30 days, or Forever.
3. Create and confirm a transcript password with at least eight characters.
4. Save the recovery code with Copy, Print, or Download.
5. Confirm I've saved my recovery code somewhere safe, then choose Turn on Lockdown Mode.

Whisperstream shows the recovery code once during setup. Store it somewhere separate from the Whisperstream data on this PC. You need either the password or recovery code to reopen locked history.

Don't save transcripts#

Choose this option to stop saving new transcript records. No transcript password or recovery code is created. This choice does not delete records already stored.

If you change your mind, open Home > Lockdown Mode > Manage, choose Start saving transcripts, and complete the password and recovery-code steps.

Lock and unlock transcript history#

Password-backed history locks again after a period of inactivity. The default is 5 min. To change it, open Home > Lockdown Mode > Manage and set Lock transcripts after idle to Never, 5 min, 10 min, 15 min, 30 min, or 1 hour. This locks transcript history, not the entire app.

Enter your transcript password to unlock history. If you forget it, choose Use recovery code instead and enter your current saved recovery code.

From Manage, you can also choose Change password or View recovery code. View recovery code creates a new code and invalidates the current one. Save the replacement before closing the dialog.

Use Local enhancement#

While Lockdown Mode is on, Local is the only available enhancement provider. If AI Enhancement was on with another provider, Whisperstream selects Local and turns enhancement off. If Local was already selected, enabled, and ready, it can remain enabled.

To use cleanup under Lockdown, complete the Local setup and then turn on AI Enhancement. See Enhancement providers for the Local download and speed-check steps.

Turn off Lockdown Mode#

1. Open Home > Lockdown Mode > Manage.
2. Choose Turn off Lockdown Mode.
3. Enter the transcript password if you chose Keep encrypted history.
4. Choose Turn off.

If you chose Don't save transcripts, no password is required. Turning Lockdown off makes cloud providers and Ollama available again and turns diagnostic logging back on. Existing transcripts remain on this PC but no longer require the Lockdown password.

Whisperstream leaves Local selected and does not turn AI Enhancement back on. Select and enable another provider yourself if needed.

Reset when recovery is impossible#

If you cannot use either the transcript password or recovery code, open the turn-off dialog and choose I forgot my password. This is a destructive reset.

Type DELETE, then choose Delete history and turn off Lockdown. The reset deletes saved transcripts and audio, turns off Lockdown Mode, and the old records cannot be restored in Whisperstream.
