Profiles, Email mode, app detection, and site detection
Configure built-in and custom profiles, then route them by manual choice, website, or foreground application.
Choose how enhancement rewrites text
An enhancement profile defines the cleanup style applied to a completed dictation. Choose a default profile, switch profiles with a Hotkey, or add app and website rules so Whisperstream selects the right style for each recording.
Whisperstream includes three built-in profiles:

Built-in profiles cannot be deleted. You can rename them, make one the default, assign rules or a Hotkey, and edit the Email signature. Their built-in cleanup instructions are not editable.
Profile cleanup runs only when enhancement is on. To enable enhancement or choose where cleanup runs, see Enhancement providers.
Choose a default or switch manually
The default profile handles recordings that do not match an app or website rule.
- Open Enhancement and select a profile.
- Choose Make default.
Choose Remove as default to clear it. If there is no default and no other rule applies, Whisperstream inserts the original transcript without enhancement.
To switch profiles manually, open a profile and assign its Hotkey. Pressing that Hotkey selects the profile without starting a recording. The manual choice remains active while you stay in the same application. Switch applications to resume automatic routing, or choose Resume auto-routing in Whisperstream.
Create a custom profile
Use a custom profile when the built-in styles do not produce the result you want.
- Open Enhancement and choose Add profile.
- Enter a Profile Name.
- Write your Cleanup prompt, or choose a Blank, Chat, Code, or Email Template as a starting point.
- Expand Try it and test representative dictation against the instructions.
- Add any rules or Hotkey you need, then choose Create.
Describe the output directly in the cleanup prompt. Include formatting, tone, or terms to preserve, then test the profile before making it your default. Templates are editable examples, not copies of the built-in instructions.
Custom profiles can be renamed, edited, or deleted. Deleting one also removes its rules.
Configure Email and its signature
Email turns spoken thoughts into a structured email. Its cleanup adds a greeting or sign-off only when you dictate one. A saved Signature is handled separately.
Open the built-in Email profile and enter an optional Signature, for example:

Whisperstream appends the saved signature when Email runs and the dictation does not already end with a sign-off. Leave Signature blank to add nothing automatically.
Add app and website rules
Open a profile, find Activated when using, and choose Add.
- Select App to choose a running or installed application. If it is missing, choose Browse... and select its executable.
- Select Website and enter a host such as
mail.google.com. Subdomains are separate rules, somail.google.comandgoogle.comcan use different profiles.
Remove a rule from its profile when you no longer want it.
Understand routing order
Whisperstream selects one profile for each recording in this order:
- Active manual Hotkey choice.
- Matching website rule.
- Matching application rule.
- Default profile.
If none applies, enhancement is skipped. App and website rules use the destination that was active when recording started, so switching windows while speaking does not change those rule matches.
When the wrong profile runs, choose Resume auto-routing first, then review the website rule, application rule, and default in that order.
